D1 – Sustaining Reform: How Citizens Can Fund Democratic Progress Across Elections

Plan D1

From Building Democratic Power to Sustaining Democratic Reform

Fellow Nigerians,

Democratic change requires more than identifying credible leaders and organising citizens around them.

Credible candidates must also be able to compete effectively without becoming dependent on political godfathers, wealthy private interests, or opaque financial networks.

RevNig aims to organise more than 20 million Nigerians into a united and disciplined democratic movement. This enormous membership base will provide not only collective voting power but also the potential for substantial financial support through modest, voluntary contributions.

Imagine the collective strength of millions of members contributing according to their individual means. Even when only a proportion of the membership contributes, relatively small donations can collectively generate significant resources to support credible candidates and lawful democratic activities.

What wealthy political sponsors achieve through concentrated financial power, millions of organised Nigerians can seek to achieve through collective participation, voluntary giving and transparent financial arrangements.

As RevNig builds this membership, Plan D1 will encourage members and other supporters to contribute voluntarily through lawful and transparent candidate or campaign funding channels, supporting credible candidates who have passed RevNig’s leadership evaluation processes.

Candidate-specific donations will remain separate from RevNig’s organisational funds and will be subject to applicable electoral and financial laws.

The purpose is not simply to win one election.

It is to help build a democratic system in which credible leadership can compete across successive elections without surrendering its independence to concentrated political wealth.

Plan D1 therefore exists for one strategic purpose:

To make credible democratic participation financially sustainable, transparent and accountable to the people.

Why Plan D1 Matters

In Nigeria, elections are often treated not as civic competition —
but as political warfare.

Entrenched interests use money to:

  • Manipulate narratives,
  • Sponsor disinformation,
  • Intimidate communities,
  • Fund political violence,
  • And weaken reform movements.

RevNig does not ignore this reality.

We confront it differently:
Through organised citizens,
Transparent funding,
And disciplined democratic participation.

When millions of Nigerians organise together, the traditional advantage of political money begins to weaken significantly.

And when citizens collectively finance democratic reform, leadership becomes increasingly accountable to the people who sustain it.

“Leadership funded by citizens is far more likely to remain loyal to citizens.”

The RevNig Democratic Funding Model

Plan D1 is built on one powerful principle:

Millions of organised citizens can collectively generate the financial strength needed to support credible democratic participation.

RevNig’s ambition to organise more than 20 million members will create an opportunity to distribute the responsibility for democratic funding across a broad membership rather than concentrating it among a few wealthy individuals.

The mathematics demonstrate the potential.

If five million eligible members voluntarily contribute an average of ₦1,000 each, their combined contributions will amount to ₦5 billion.

If ten million eligible members contribute the same amount, the total will reach ₦10 billion.

These are illustrative calculations, not fundraising forecasts. Actual contributions will depend on voluntary participation, donor eligibility and applicable electoral laws.

The strength of this model will come from:

  • Numerical strength,
  • Affordable voluntary contributions,
  • Broad financial participation,
  • Transparent campaign funding channels,
  • And strict financial accountability.

RevNig will not need to collect candidate-specific donations into its own accounts.

Instead, it will encourage eligible members and supporters to contribute directly through legally compliant candidate or campaign funding channels.

Every candidate receiving RevNig’s organisational support must satisfy its leadership evaluation standards and maintain appropriate financial transparency.

This approach will keep candidate-specific contributions separate from RevNig’s organisational and community-development funds.

The objective is to make credible democratic participation financially sustainable without allowing concentrated private wealth to dominate its funding.eans of supporting credible democratic participation responsibly.

What Plan D1 Supports

Plan D1 is not a blank cheque for political ambition.

It is a framework for helping credible candidates and democratic reform compete effectively without becoming unnecessarily dependent on political godfathers, wealthy private interests or opaque financial networks.

Support may include:

  • Grassroots voter mobilisation,
  • Civic education,
  • Policy communication,
  • Lawful campaign organisation,
  • Data-driven voter engagement,
  • Election monitoring and transparency initiatives,
  • Community-level democratic participation,
  • And voluntary financial support for credible candidates who have satisfied RevNig’s leadership standards.

Where RevNig encourages financial support for a particular candidate, candidate-specific contributions should be made through appropriate, transparent and legally compliant campaign funding channels.

Such contributions should remain distinguishishable from RevNig’s own organisational funds and from contributions intended for community or development projects.

The objective is not victory at all costs.

The objective is:

Sustainable democratic reform pursued lawfully, transparently and responsibly.

This principle can apply across:

  • Federal elections,
  • State elections,
  • Legislative elections,
  • And local government elections.

Because democratic reform becomes stronger when credible leadership can compete effectively across institutions and successive election cycles.

The Three Non-Negotiables

1. Credibility Before Financial Support

RevNig will not encourage financial support for an aspirant merely because the person is:

  • Wealthy,
  • Famous,
  • Politically connected,
  • Popular,
  • Or capable of attracting large crowds.

Before RevNig encourages members and other supporters to contribute financially to a candidate, that candidate must satisfy the leadership evaluation standards established under Plan C.

These standards include:

  • Transparency,
  • Integrity,
  • Accountability,
  • Competence,
  • Openness to public scrutiny,
  • And commitment to democratic governance.

RevNig will apply its established evaluation procedures consistently and will make the basis of its assessments clear.

Financial support must follow credible leadership evaluation — not replace it.

2. Transparent Financial Channels

RevNig will maintain a clear distinction between its organisational funds and contributions intended specifically for political candidates.

Candidate-specific contributions encouraged through Plan D1 will be directed through lawful and transparent campaign funding channels, subject to applicable electoral and financial regulations.

RevNig will not routinely collect candidate-specific contributions into its own bank accounts for onward distribution.

Every candidate receiving RevNig’s organisational support must demonstrate a commitment to:

  • Proper financial recordkeeping,
  • Compliance with applicable contribution limits,
  • Transparency concerning campaign funding,
  • Appropriate financial reporting,
  • And accountability for campaign expenditure.

RevNig will make these requirements clear before encouraging candidate-specific financial contributions.

Political fundraising must never become another hidden financial power structure.

3. Accountability

RevNig will make its continued organisational support conditional upon transparency, accountability and adherence to its established leadership standards.

Candidates receiving RevNig’s organisational support must remain answerable for the commitments on which that support was based.

RevNig will assess continued support against:

  • Compliance with applicable electoral and financial laws,
  • Appropriate disclosure of campaign contributions and expenditure,
  • Adherence to publicly stated leadership commitments,
  • Cooperation with lawful scrutiny,
  • And continued respect for democratic accountability.

Where credible evidence establishes serious breaches of these standards, RevNig will review its position and determine whether continued organisational support remains justified.

RevNig will communicate its decisions transparently, while respecting applicable legal requirements and the rights of those concerned.

RevNig’s support will be earned through credibility, maintained through accountability and withdrawn when its essential standards are no longer satisfied.

Why Sustained Democratic Funding Matters

Democratic reform must be supported before, during and after elections.

As RevNig builds its membership and identifies credible candidates through its leadership evaluation process, it will encourage lawful, voluntary financial support through transparent candidate or campaign funding channels.

This support will not depend on RevNig first achieving electoral victory.

Elections are recurring tests of democratic commitment.

Without sustained democratic participation:

  • Corrupt political structures can regroup,
  • Vote-buying networks can return,
  • Credible candidates can struggle to compete,
  • And reform progress can weaken.

Plan D1 will help establish a culture of sustained democratic participation and financial responsibility across successive elections.

Because meaningful national transformation requires consistency across multiple election cycles — not temporary victories.s — not temporary victories.

The Economic Importance of Democratic Stability

Stable democratic institutions and accountable governance create stronger foundations for:

  • Institutional trust,
  • Economic predictability,
  • Anti-corruption enforcement,
  • Responsible public spending,
  • And long-term development planning.

When credible leadership, effective institutions and public accountability work together, Nigeria will be better positioned to:

  • Reduce waste,
  • Prevent financial leakages,
  • Strengthen investor confidence,
  • Improve public services,
  • And promote sustainable economic development.

Plan D1 will support the democratic continuity needed to pursue these objectives across successive election cycles.

Its purpose is not simply to sustain particular individuals in political office.

It is to help establish a democratic culture in which credible leadership, institutional accountability and responsible governance remain enduring national expectations.

How Plan D1 Fits the RevNig Framework

Plan D1 connects directly with the four pillars of RevNig’s democratic and national transformation framework.

Plan A

Mobilises and organises Nigerians to exercise their democratic power collectively.

Plan B

Strengthens electoral integrity and protects the democratic process.

Plan C

Promotes credible leadership and establishes standards for evaluating those seeking public office.

Plan D

Transforms organised civic participation into sustainable democratic support, practical development and measurable public benefit.

Plan D1 connects these objectives by helping to make credible democratic participation financially sustainable across successive elections.

Through its ambition to organise more than 20 million members, RevNig seeks to demonstrate how collective participation can reduce dependence on concentrated political wealth.

As RevNig’s membership grows, it will encourage eligible members and other supporters to make voluntary contributions directly through lawful candidate or campaign funding channels.

RevNig will maintain a clear distinction between its organisational funds and contributions intended specifically for candidates.

Because:

  • Organised voters alone are not enough,
  • Credible candidates also need resources to compete effectively,
  • Electoral victories must be followed by accountability,
  • And democratic progress must be sustained across successive elections.

Democracy must become durable.

A Direct Call to Nigerians

Fellow Nigerians,

Nigeria’s democratic transformation cannot depend on a single election, a single leader or a temporary moment of public enthusiasm.

Lasting reform requires:

  • Organised participation,
  • Credible leadership,
  • Electoral integrity,
  • Financial transparency,
  • And sustained public accountability.

RevNig will work to establish a democratic culture in which credible leadership can compete without surrendering its independence to concentrated political wealth.

Its members will remain central to this mission, while participation and lawful voluntary financial support will remain open to other eligible Nigerians who share its commitment to democratic accountability.

RevNig will not measure democratic progress by electoral victories alone, but also by the integrity of the processes through which those victories are pursued and the accountability of those who eventually govern.

The objective is not merely to change who holds power.

It is to strengthen the standards by which public power is obtained, exercised and held accountable.

Yes We Will.
